About the team
ARENA’s Finance and Risk Group is responsible for financial stewardship, resource management and organisational assurance. The group oversees financial control and reporting, business partnering and projects, and risk and assurance, ensuring ARENA’s funding commitments, budgets, governance reporting, procurement, travel and facilities are effectively managed.
The Risk and Assurance team, encompassing risk, audit, assurance and property, supports ARENA to operate effectively, efficiently and with strong governance by coordinating activities that strengthen governance and assurance and enable effective risk management and fraud and corruption control. The team helps streamline processes, drive continuous improvement and provide clear, timely advice, while valuing open communication and collaboration and encouraging workers to share ideas to improve ARENA’s operations.
About the position
The Manager, Risk and Assurance, supports ARENA’s governance and assurance framework by strengthening strategic, enterprise and operational risk management and coordinating assurance activity across the organisation. With internal audit delivered through an outsourced provider, the role leads internal coordination of the audit program, including planning, stakeholder engagement, tracking actions and reporting, to provide assurance to senior leadership, the Board and the Audit and Risk Committee that controls are documented, implemented and operating effectively.
The role applies sound judgement and initiative to ensure assurance activities are well planned, timely and practical, supports accountability and performance obligations, maintains risk, assurance and integrity policies and guidance. The role will contribute to the continuous improvement of all Risk and Assurance related activities at ARENA.
Key skills, experience and qualifications
You will bring:
Essential

Demonstrated experience in assurance, internal audit, risk management, governance, and/or a related field

Proven experience coordinating audits and assurance activities, including collaborating effectively with external auditors and service providers

Strong understanding of internal controls and assurance frameworks, preferably in a public sector context

Well-developed judgement, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience preparing policies and executive-level advice

Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, remain flexible and meet critical deadlines
-
Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, audit, risk, or a related discipline
Desirable

Experience working in the Commonwealth public sector

Knowledge of ANAO audits, Audit and Risk Committees, or Commonwealth governance frameworks and assurance requirements
